Poolean vs HydroApps
HydroApps sells six separate tools. Poolean keeps one record for each pool. What each lists on its public pages.
HydroApps sells six separate tools for aquatic facilities: Facility Manager, Staff Manager, Schedule Manager, Compliance Manager, Equipment Manager and Pool Test. You can buy the whole set or start with one. Poolean keeps the daily record of each pool in one place instead: water tests with photos, closures, staffing, site visits and maintenance. HydroApps lists a self-assessment tool and certification tracking that Poolean's feature pages do not.
What does HydroApps do well?
Its products page says you can choose the complete suite or start with a single solution. That is useful if you only want to replace paper water logs first. The individual pages describe:
- Pool Test. The Pool Test page lists customizable test parameters (MAHC or local guidelines), instant alerts for out-of-range results, reports and exports, and historical data for audits or inspections.
- Schedule Manager. The Schedule Manager page lists recurring shift templates, supervisor shift approval and change tracking, availability and time-off requests, role-based scheduling, conflict detection, and scheduling based on certifications when used with Staff Manager.
- Facility Manager. The Facility Manager page lists digital checklists, incident and accident reports with photos, signature capture, role-based access and dashboards.
- Compliance Manager. The Compliance Manager page describes a self-assessment against MAHC, OSHA and industry practice. Findings turn into tasks assigned to staff at each site, you retest with photos and documents, and you can compare performance across locations.
- Staff Manager and Equipment Manager. The products page describes certification and expiry tracking, and a digital log for a facility's critical equipment.
Pricing is by quote: its pages link to a request-pricing form.
Who is HydroApps a fit for?
An aquatics team that wants to digitize one job at a time and add the rest later, or one that wants a structured self-audit against MAHC and OSHA that turns gaps into tasks. If your priority is a documented compliance program, Compliance Manager is aimed at that.
Where does Poolean differ?
- One record for each pool. Water readings, test photos, staffing, closures, site visits, maintenance and tasks sit together, so a supervisor looking at a flagged pool sees all of it in one place.
- A photo with each water test. A lifeguard photographs the test tube next to the color slide when entering free chlorine and pH. HydroApps lists incident reports with photos; we did not see photos on Pool Test entries.
- Closures and reopening. A closure is recorded with a reason and a time, and the reopening steps your team has recorded are tracked. We did not see this on the HydroApps pages.
- Forecasts and alerts. Poolean gives an early warning before a reading goes out of range, with a suggested fix, plus a chemical reorder forecast, swimmer and staffing forecasts, and a flag for sites that need attention before a health inspection.
- Supervisors and owners. Supervisors clock in at their pools, follow tasks from the regional manager and record site visits. Regional managers get a Needs Attention list on desktop. Property managers and boards get a read-only view.
- No signal. Equipment details, checklists and history for assigned pools are saved on the phone, and entries made offline upload later with their original times. We did not see offline use on the HydroApps pages.
Poolean's feature pages do not list a compliance self-assessment or certification tracking.
HydroApps and Poolean side by side
In the tables, “Not seen” means we did not see it on the pages linked under Sources. It does not mean the product lacks it, so ask the vendor to show you.

How should you decide?
Write down the jobs you want off paper and ask each vendor to demonstrate them with sample records, including a correction to a water test and a closure. If you are starting with water logs only, HydroApps lets you buy just that piece. If you want water tests, staffing and closures reviewed together across many pools, that is the case Poolean is built for. See our comparison post for the demo steps.
Questions people ask
Does HydroApps do the same thing as Poolean?
Partly. Both cover water test logs and staff scheduling. HydroApps splits the work into six separate products and includes a compliance self-assessment and certification tracking. Poolean keeps water tests with photos, closures, staffing, site visits and maintenance on one record for each pool.
Can I buy only the water log from HydroApps?
Its products page says you can start with a single solution, and Pool Test is the water chemistry log. Ask HydroApps for a quote.
Can I move my records to Poolean?
Send us an export from your current system. We review it with you, help import your pool, equipment, and maintenance records, and confirm what can be transferred before you switch.
How does Poolean pricing work?
Pricing depends on how many pools you run. We give you a quote on a 30-minute call.
