Poolean vs Skimmer
Skimmer is built for pool service routes and billing. Poolean is built for commercial operators with staff on site. Here is the difference.
Skimmer is built for pool service companies: technicians who drive a route to customers' pools, with scheduling, invoicing and customer reports. Poolean is built for operators who run commercial pools with staff on site: lifeguard shifts, water test logs, closures, site visits and manager review across several sites. Pick Skimmer if your business is routes and invoices. Pick Poolean if your business is running the pools and the people who staff them.
What does Skimmer do well?
Skimmer's home page describes software for routing, scheduling and billing at pool service companies, and its customer examples are service businesses. Pages we read list:
- Routes. A route builder and, on the middle plan, route optimization.
- Billing. Invoices generated from completed work, online payments, AutoPay, bulk invoicing, and a QuickBooks Online sync.
- Technician app. Custom checklists, readings and dosages with LSI calculations and dosing recommendations, and an app that works offline and syncs when the connection returns (from its FAQ).
- Customer reports. Service report emails with photos, and a customer portal where customers can pay.
- Bigger companies. Its enterprise page lists enterprise reporting, real-time route tracking, a public REST API, and onboarding for large teams.
Its pricing page shows two published tiers priced monthly per serviced location, and a custom enterprise tier for the largest companies.
Who is Skimmer a fit for?
A pool service company, from a handful of pools to a large multi-location business, that needs routes, invoices and customer reports. Skimmer's pages are written for that business and talk about keeping homeowners happy.
Where does Poolean differ?
- Staff on site, not a tech on a route. Lifeguards see shifts, clock in, report call-outs or late arrivals, and post shifts for coverage. Managers review coverage requests and record approvals. We did not see lifeguard shifts or coverage requests on the Skimmer pages.
- Closures. Poolean records a closure with a reason and a time, and tracks the reopening steps.
- Test photos and inspection prep. Each water test has a photo of the test tube next to the color slide. Poolean builds daily or monthly logs (print, PDF or CSV) and flags sites that need attention before a health inspection. We did not see health inspection records on the Skimmer pages.
- Supervisors and owners. Site visits and guard photos sit on each pool's record. A regional manager sees a Needs Attention list across pools, and property managers and boards get a read-only view.
- What Poolean does not do. Poolean's feature list has no route optimization and no customer invoicing or payments.

How should you decide?
Count who does the work. If technicians visit customers' pools and you bill for each visit, Skimmer fits. If you manage pools with lifeguards and supervisors on staff and the questions are “was the water tested, who was on deck, was the pool closed, are we ready for the inspector”, Poolean fits. Some companies need both jobs, so ask each vendor to show you a day of your own work. Our guide to managing multiple pool sites lists the morning checks to try.
Questions people ask
Is Skimmer built for commercial pools?
Its pages are written for pool service companies that run routes, and they mention homeowners. We did not see lifeguard scheduling or health inspection records on the pages we read. Ask Skimmer to show your commercial workflow.
Does Poolean do billing or routing?
No. Poolean's feature list has no route optimization and no customer invoicing. It covers water tests, staffing, closures, site visits, maintenance and tasks for each pool.
Can I move my records to Poolean?
Send us an export from your current system. We review it with you, help import your pool, equipment, and maintenance records, and confirm what can be transferred before you switch.
How does Poolean pricing work?
Pricing depends on how many pools you run. We give you a quote on a 30-minute call.
